Before getting my first bottle of Thieves Dish Soap, I was told not to expect as many suds as I was used to in my grocery store bottle of dish soap. That didn't bother me, because after losing my mom to a massive pulmonary embolism, likely caused by her cleaning and personal care product choices, leading to Body Burden, (Google it, it's shocking), I was determined to ditch all my harsh chemical cleaners for safe, all-natural, plant-based options, without breaking the bank.

So why am I okay with a product not making lots of bubbles? Well, it turns out, SLS (sodium lauryl sulfate) / SLES (sodium laureth sulfate) is used in a whole lot of conventional cleaning and personal care products, really anything that gets foamy or degreases. This chemical is known to easily absorb through the skin and it is known to cause allergic reactions and rashes. According to the Environmental Working Group’s Skin Deep Cosmetic Safety Database, SLS is a “moderate hazard” that has been linked to cancer, neurotoxicity, organ toxicity, skin irritation, and endocrine disruption.  NO THANK YOU, I'll take mine without!

Thankfully, most plant-based soaps on the market don't include SLS, but you do need to be aware of essential oil claims as an ingredient. Now don't get me wrong, I am all for authentic essential oils that are plant-based; however, one thing I've found is that the essential oils listed on their label are concocted in a lab and are a cheap synthetic chemical version, that can do more harm than good. 

While companies typically justify that the amounts of harsh chemicals found in their products are too small to do any damage. I beg to differ, I watched my mom die; my family had to make the painful decision to pull the plug on her life support. That day haunts me. Trust me on this,  drop by drop, day after day, it all adds up until our bodies can't take anymore. Dish soap is just one of the many household and personal care items we use daily that can have a negative impact on our health. If you're not already a label reader, start, Google will be your friend, just type in "dangers of ______ ".

So What's in Thieves Dish Soap?

• Surfactants: These are derived from natural sources such as glucose, palm trees, and coconuts. Surfactants are needed for different reasons: (1) They act as cleansing and foaming agents, and (2) they act as stabilizers to make sure you don’t get an overload of bubbles as you wash your dishes! Because they are naturally derived, our surfactants are biodegradable and non-irritating to your skin. Our formula pairs the surfactants with natural salts, because these two ingredients work synergistically to boost cleaning properties!
• Minerals (sodium sesquicarbonate): This naturally derived ingredient balances the pH in the formula, which means that no preservatives are needed! The minerals are extracted from trona ore, a mineral that is found near the Green River area.
• Jade Lemon essential oil: Jade Lemon has a unique lemon-lime scent that is pleasing and uplifting. Its wonderful, zesty fragrance is clean and inviting.

It includes the naturally occurring constituents trans-cinnamaldehyde, limonene, and eucalyptol. It’s known for its cleansing properties, and it neutralizes and purifies odors.

You Are Going to Love the Freshness of the Thieves Dish Soap and the Way it Performs!

My husband was a total skeptic - that is until he used the Thieves Dish Soap to clean baked-on, greasy baking pans! My AHA moment was when he left his empty glass with chocolate protein powder stuck to the sides. (I know you know what I mean, that stuff sticks like glue!)  I filled it with water and a little Thieves Dish Soap and let it soak while I made a cup of tea. When I went back to the sink I noticed all the residue was at the bottom and I never even had to scrub the sides of the glass.

Thieves Dish Soap really tackles the grease and fried on bits from bacon too! I don't use non-stick in my kitchen, so I need powerful dish soap to do my dirty work and Thieves Dish Soap does not disappoint!

I just squeeze a little Thieves Dish Soap into the pan (I find it really works well on a hot pan). Let it sit for a few minutes, once the pan has cooled, add tap water, to cover the debris. Let sit for a few minutes to loosen; use a sponge to wipe away and if needed a scrub sponge safe for non-stick to avoid scratching the pan.

A Few Tips Before We Start Transforming Our Thieves Dish Soap

I purposely add the water last, especially if reusing a small mouth bottle. This helps to prevent too many bubbles from forming when refilling. I've saved my empty product bottles so I can refill them, if you don't have empties, grab a few glass jars, how many and size will depend on how many bottles you want to make. 

Let the magic begin!

To make one 12 oz bottle
-1) 8 oz clean, empty jar
-3 oz Thieves Dish Soap
-2 tsp baking soda
-3/4 tsp Thieves Household Cleaner
-8 oz’s distilled water (boil it if you don't have bottled)

To make 48 oz 
-1 - 12 oz bottle of Thieves Dish Soap
-1 Tbl + 1 tsp baking soda
-1 Tbl (equals 1 capful) Thieves Household Cleaner
-32 oz (4 cups) distilled water
-clean empty 48oz glass bottle or 2) quart-sized mason jars.

Instructions
for 1 - 12 oz bottle
-Squeeze 3 oz of Thieves Dish Soap into an 8 oz measuring cup with a pour spout.
-Empty the remaining Thieves Dish Soap concentrate into a clean empty jar and mark it as a concentrate for future refills.
-Add baking soda to the dish soap; stir until baking soda is dissolved.
-Add Thieves Household Cleaner; gently mix being careful not to make too many bubbles.
-Pour this super-charged mixture back into the now-empty Thieves Dish Soap bottle.
-Slowly pour the distilled water into the Thieves Dish Soap bottle to avoid excess bubbles. Once all the water has been added, recap the bottle and shake well to mix.  

When making the 48 oz batch, add ingredients as above, this time in a mixing bowl, omitting the water until you have separated your mixture into your storage jars, then slowly add the appropriate amount of water to each jar, stir or shake to mix.

Use as directed on the Thieves Dish Soap bottle.

Hold on to Your Hats Because There Are Even More Reasons to Love Thieves Dish Soap!

So many of our products are multi-use. Check some of the ways I use my dish soap with fantastic results.

• Eliminate Dishwashing Detergent - because this is a low sudsing soap, it's perfect for your automatic dishwasher too! Just add 2 DROPS to 1/4 tsp to your dispenser. (Start with less, add more if needed based on your results and water hardness)
• Laundry stains are a thing of the past! Just apply Thieves Dish Soap to the item, let sit a bit and wash as usual!
• Need a concentrated stain remover? Add 4 drops Thieves Dish Soap and 3 drops Young Living Lemon essential oil to an empty 15ml bottle (a great way to re-use your essential oil bottles) and top it off with Thieves Household Cleaner.
• Dirty or stained tubs, toilets, showers & sinks? I gotcha covered with this DIY Soft Scrub, in a small dish add 2 Tbl of baking soda,  4 drops Young Living Lemon essential oil, and a 1/2 teaspoon of  Thieves Automatic Dishwashing Powder , and then add just enough water to make it a textured paste.
• Liquid Scrub - for those times you need an extra boost but don't want to use baking soda, give this one a shot. 2 Tbsp of Thieves Dish Soap, 5 drops Young Living Lemon essential oil and 3 capfuls of Thieves Household Cleaner to a kitchen soap dispensing brush or sponge, (you know the ones you put dish detergent in the handle). Fill the remainder with water. Shake well then scrub-a-dub-dub!
• DIY Shower Spray -  In a 32oz spray bottle, add 2 Tbl of Thieves Dish Soap, 2 caps of Thieves Household Cleaner then fill the bottle with a 50/50 mixture of 1/2 distilled vinegar and 1/2 distilled water. Spray the interior when finished showering for a sparkling clean finish that also helps reduce hard water stains.
