Crispy. That’s how I would describe myself. I’m not really a “crunchy” mom. I surely fall short of that. So, Crispy it is. On the verge of crunchiness but…not. I haven’t always been this way. My approach to wellness and personal care was more “don’t rock the boat.” Surely, I thought, I would not be steered wrong. It worked for those before me. It was the example that I was given. But, for this gal that had always felt like she didn’t quite belong, there was a change coming.
Never really being the one that liked to pop open a bottle to help with a problem, I knew there must be something else I could do. A more gentle, natural way to assist my body. I started to research on my own how to accomplish what I was after. Bingo! I might add that a few years earlier we started to homeschool. At the time, it was a road less taken. I did not have many around me that homeschooled. And there were others that didn’t agree with our decision. So trying essential oils fit right in with our new path. I was amazed at the opening of my first bottle, peppermint. It smelt wonderful and did the trick! But this was just the start.
Soon after, my dad was told that his kidney function was drastically declining and that he would soon be on dialysis. My instinct was to research and to beat the odds. As he was also diabetic, I had a lot to learn. We changed out what he was eating, the personal care products he was using, and the cleaners used in his house. And of course, we added YL essential oils and supplements to the mix. They prepared him to start dialysis, but with a doctor that was willing to wait, we were able to keep him off for 6.5 years!! We also controlled his diabetes and he was completely off of those meds. He is currently on dialysis and we continue to utilize all we did before and then some. He has been able to cut his chair time considerably; from three days a week down to two. This is the part when I tell you that I’m not a medical doctor and that this should only be for information and not to diagnose or treat. I’m not a doctor, but I am resourceful!
There are many others in my extended family that have benefited from our new found lifestyle. I tell others that you can’t control what is out in the world, but you can control (or at least have a say) in what is in your home. We have made the effort to make conscious decisions on what we are using in our home. Gone are the candles of yesterday. They used to smell so good. But now, I can barely stand to be next to them. And this is where my “crispy” status comes in. We are not compulsive on everything. The world will not end if we buy regular apples and not the organic ones. Yes, organic is preferred, but not always available. But, we do not compromise on our essential oils, cleaners, supplements, and personal care. Everyday there is something new to learn about how we can best meet our wellness goals. And just as studying the Word of God is never ending (you can't exhaust the Word of God), there is always something new to glean in our wellness journey. It's a journey, not a destination.
