Smith Salve

While lots of us have stocked up on hand sanitizer, you may not be aware of this trick. Let me fill you in.

I heard about a family who has 15 children and they rarely get sick and this is her hack. That’s why we call it Smith Salve.

I use Animal Scents Ointment or Rose Ointment. I also use a variety of essential oils. I vary the recipe due to some oils being out of stock.

It’s such an easy and forgiving recipe that I don’t even measure. You want to use about 2 Tablespoons of the ointment and about 10 drops of each oil. This time I used Thieves and Exodus II (which is a seasonal oil). Stir it all really well and store it in a container with a tight-fitting lid. Lip balm pots make a great little thing to store this in and you can make one for every member of the family.

Several times a day, I will dip a cotton swab or Q-tip into the mixture and run it along the inside of my nostrils.

That’s it. Easy Peasy. (Please do not do this recipe with fragrance oils. This is for therapeutic oils only.)

Animal Scents Ointment - 6.3oz (this is a big tub that will make lots of this salve. Plus, you can use the ointment on just about anything skin-related. I love it for dry skin, cracked heels, cuticles, etc.).  Or you could use Rose Ointment - 0.86 oz.  I personally prefer the Rose Ointment.  But the Animal Scents Ointment is much more cost-effective.

Thieves Essential Oil - 15ml bottle contains close to 300 drops so you could make about 30 of this recipe.

Exodus II - 5ml bottle contains close to 100 drops so you could make about 10 of this recipe.
