Healthy Snacks for Balanced Blood Sugar for Balanced Hormones

Snacks are one of the most common ways we sabotage our healthy intentions. They can really send us on a roller coaster of highs and lows for the day, and we have nature working against us in the name of energy. She wants something fast and sweet for the now, but what we really need is something wholesome and satiating to keep us going for the long haul of the day. 

Letting your blood sugar dip too low is just as hard on your system as letting it get too high. We need balance and stability.

Low blood sugar triggers the pancreas to pump out glucagon, which triggers the liver to convert stored glycogen back into glucose and release that glucose into your bloodstream to bring blood sugar levels back up. This process ensures your brain, heart, and muscles have enough energy (in the form of glucose) to perform their many tasks.

If the liver is tied up with converting glycogen to glucose for energy, it won’t be able to keep up with its other important task of flushing toxins and used up hormones out the body. When toxins and estrogen build up in the bloodstream, it throws the whole balance of the feminine genius off. Not-to-mention the buildup of estrogen provides fuel for tumors to grow.

What to do when blood sugar gets too low:

Your main goal is to prevent a total blood sugar crash and ward of sugar cravings throughout the rest of your day with a satiating, healthy snack. As someone who is not a big fan of fruits and veggies, I've found some healthy options that check all my boxes for taste, quality, and function. 

Below is a list of my favorite healthy snacks and why I love them.

Balance Complete™ or Slique Shake™. Slique comes in individual packets for easy stashing in purses and desk drawers. I love these for a quick meal-on-the-go. I start each morning with what I call my "Power Shake" so I know I'm getting off on the right foot and my nutritional needs are being met, my gut health issues are being addressed, and my muscles are being supported. 

Keep Slique Bars, Wolfberry CrispEinkorn Granola, or Protein Bites stashed in your desk, purse, or car for convenience. Slique Bars or Wolfberry Crisp bars are great for a chocolate fix, with healthy nuts, seeds, and of course, NingXia Wolfberry. Einkorn Granola is great in milk like cereal, in yogurt, or on its own. I like to toss Protein Power Bites in the bag when I'm needing less carbs, more protein, like after exercise or if it's close to bedtime.

Dried Wolfberries have a nice nut-like crunch and are great to just munch on or toss in yogurt or cereal. These are super rich in antioxidants.

When I need to redirect my sweet cravings to something good, Ningxia Red is my go-to. It is lightly satiating, but provides excellent nutrition, balance, and support with a list of benefits too long to share here.

And finally, when I need more energy to keep up with the kids, NITRO is what I call "mommy's go-go juice". Instead of sleeping in the lounge chair while we're at the pool, I'm out there swimming with my kids and that's what I call winning!
