How to find the best Vitamin C for Immune function.

We have always been told to get plenty of vitamin C when we are sick or trying to avoid getting sick. Do you know why?

Vitamin C liquefies mucus. It is also supportive to the immune system because it is an antioxidant, that is, it prevents oxidative stress to the cell, reducing free radicals. Free radicals may play a role in heart disease, cancer and other diseases.   Anytime we can strengthen the function and structure of a cell, we can support a strong healthy body structure. Afterall, we are made up of cells.

Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) is a vitamin your body needs to form blood vessels, cartilage, muscle and collagen in bones. Vitamin C is also vital to your body's healing process.

Vitamin C also helps your body absorb and store iron.

People with gastrointestinal conditions and some types of cancer might be susceptible to vitamin C deficiency. Severe vitamin C deficiency can lead to a disease characterized by anemia, bleeding gums, bruising and poor wound healing.

The body does not produce its own vitamin C, so it must be consumed regularly.

The recommended daily amount of vitamin C, per Mayo Clinic, for adult men is 90 milligrams and for adult women is 75 milligrams.

Research shows eating a diet rich in fruits and vegetables might lower your risk of many types of cancer, such as breast, colon and lung cancers. However, it's not clear whether this protective effect is related to the vitamin C content in the food.

Consuming vitamin C won't prevent the common cold. However, there's some evidence that when people who regularly take vitamin C supplements get a cold, the illness lasts fewer days and symptoms are less severe. Starting a vitamin C supplement only after you develop a cold is of no help.

Taking oral vitamin C supplements in combination with other vitamins and minerals seems to prevent age-related macular degeneration (AMD) from worsening. Some studies also suggest that people who have higher levels of vitamin C in their diets have a lower risk of developing cataracts.

The body uses more Vitamin C during times of stress. So increasing your Vitamin C intake is crucial in moments of physical AND emotional stress....like right now.  This is also the reason we are told to take Vitamin C when we are sick, because illness is stress. By supplementing Vitamin C when we are healthy, we are insuring that our body has the tools readily available when it needs them. This is being pro-active, instead of re-active.

But here's the kicker...the source or form of vitamin C matters. The synthetic ascorbic acid found in most store brands had zero results in these tests. The form of the Vitamin C had to come from a whole-food source if not from eating the foods themselves.

And, if your vitamin C supplement does not contain bioflavanoids (most store brands do not) your body is not able to utilize it. Yep, it's useless. In and out. Waste of money.

So when looking for a vitamin C supplement, make sure it is derived from whole-food ingredients and it contains a synergistic blend of bioflavanoids.

Young Living's Super C™ supplements are sourced from whole foods in a synergistic blend AND infused with essential oils (bioflavanoids) which improves assimilation. That is, your body is able to utilize all the vitamin C goodness that is in the product. This is important information to know when looking at Vitamin C content from brand to brand. When doing this, it looks like Super C™ doesn't have a whole lot. The Chewable contains 150 mg per tablet, 170% recommended DV. The capsules contain 1.3 grams, 1440% DV.  In comparison to store-brands commonly containing 500-1000 mg. But since those store brands are most commonly synthetic isolated vitamin C, the body does not use it, so you can take as high a dose as you want, it’s not going to do you any good….according to studies. So the amount of vitamin C in Young Living’s Super C™ supplements is actually able to be used by the body almost entirely. So choice #1 is to take 1000 mg of store brand “A” and absorb 0 grams of it; flushing it all down the toilet. Or Choice #2, take Young Living’s Super C™ Chewable at 150 mg or Super C™ capsule at 1.3 grams and absorb nearly all 150 mg and 1.3 grams of it. It’s a pretty easy decision.

So which one should you take? The Chewable or the capsule?

When looking to clear away mucus in the lungs, the Chewable is going to be your jam. Also when you are just looking for a readily available, instant boost. Sucking on it instead of chewing it will allow for more buccal cell cavity absorption, meaning the blood cells in your mouth will absorb it, bypassing the digestive system, sending the vitamin C straight to the blood stream for immediate use.

When looking to supplement serious amounts of vitamin C to your immune system and daily cellular support, the capsules will be your product of choice. The capsules also contain other important minerals like potassium and magnesium, ZINC and calcium, which makes it an excellent choice if you are looking for muscle support, mood support, bone health, cardiovascular support, and immune support.

Loose stool is a sign you've had enough vitamin C, but it typically takes over 2000 mg to get there.
