Luxurious Whipped Body Butter

Okay, with all the hand washing and sanitizing on top of wintery dry skin, I bet a bunch of you have some pretty dry hands happening right about now. Yeah? Well let me help you out with that by sharing one of my favorite DIY's with you, my whipped body butter.

It is sooo simple to make! Plus, when you buy all the raw ingredients you will have enough to make a BUNCH more, and everything can be used many other ways, so totally worth getting.

On top of this stuff having a stellar performance record and being way cheaper to make than buying it in the store, it is SO MUCH healthier for you to use.

Our skin is the largest organ of the body and it absorbs things like a sponge. It has an oily coating, oily being lipids, aka fats, to keep it moist and pliable right? Well most chemicals and toxins are fat-soluble. That means they stick to fat cells or lipids or oil, whatever you want to call it. It sticks to it and then is carried into the body to be dealt with. For a visual, think about how grease sticks to your plastic dishes if you try to wash them after a greasy pan. Plastic is a fat-soluble petrochemical.

Hopefully your lymph, the fluid under the skin catches the toxins and sends them out your lymph nodes that are hopefully not overloaded and clogged with other toxic loads so they can function freely. (Are you seeing how your chemical exposure has a ripple effect yet?)

A lot of lotions, like almost all of them, have estrogen mimickers in them that will get by the lymph and make it to your bloodstream and into a cell. These estrogen mimickers will block the cell from being able to get the good estrogens your body made and can actually use, and that will have a domino effect on your vitality.

Don't think that's a big deal? Think about how many people you know with hormonal or fertility issues, acne, or migraines. Yeah. The fragrant lotion has got to go! Don't worry, you won't miss it with this recipe.

What you need for this savvy swap-out:

Four, 4 oz jars. (the recipe makes about 16 oz of finished product) I love these flat little mason jars that are 4 ounce. Add a cute label and ribbon and they make a sweet little gift. WAY better than any toxin-filled bath & body crap. Four ounce salve jars work well too, just make sure it is PET plastic. I don't like to bottle it in any bigger amounts because I like to keep it fresh if I'm dipping my fingers into it. A little goes a long way, so a 4 oz jar lasts a long time.

1/2 cup Organic Extra Virgin Coconut Oil. The 76 degree kind.

1 cup Shea Butter

1/2 cup Sweet Almond Oil

20-40 drops essential oils, depending on the desired strength of scent. (see oil suggestions below)

HOW TO MAKE IT:

1. In a double boiler on low heat melt 1 cup Shea Butter, 1/2 cup coconut oil, 1/2 cup sweet almond oil. I don't like to use the microwave because I feel like you lose some of the healing benefits. (ask the true crunchies, they'll know better)

2. Let it cool a bit, enough you can comfortably touch it but it's still liquidy, then add your essential oils. You want to let it cool so you do not damage the beneficial plant properties of the essential oils that are heat sensitive. However, if you aren't using Young Living essential oils and are using a bargain brand instead, then go ahead and add the oils whenever you want because bargain oils have none of their beneficial constituents intact anyway and are no better than synthetic fragrances in the store-bought lotions. I buy mine here.

3. Mix everything together and let it cool.

4. Once it is cloudy but not yet hard, use a mixer to whip it to butter consistency.

5. Scoop it into jars. You're done.

This will liquefy at temps above 76 degrees and that's ok. You can use it in the liquid form or plop it in the fridge and re-whip no problem.

I like to keep things simple with adding 20 drops Gentle Baby™ essential oil blend for its skin supporting properties, as well as a nice scent. This makes the most excellent belly butter for stretch mark prevention. Try Myrrh for severe cracked skin.

Other oil combinations to try:

Margaritaville: 10 drops Lime, 5 drops Orange, 5 drops Cardamom.

Groovy: 10 drops Lavender, 10 drops Orange, 5 drops Lemon.

Lovely: 10 drops Clary Sage, 10 drops Gentle Baby™, 5 drops tea tree.

Totally Zen: 10 drops Peace & Calming™, 10 drops Lavender.

Bliss: 10 drops Roman Chamomile, 10 drops Geranium

Combinations are endless and can be tailored toward a specific need. Reach out to me if you need some guidance.

I hope you enjoy making this luxurious moisturizer that will feel like an expensive specialty store find, but won't tax your health.
